Vote William Leen
An Independent candidate who will fight for affordable housing, support local tourism, and prioritize small businesses.
From the village of Causeway, I have been working in Killarney for the past couple of years. Even in my short time here, I have seen a sad and slow decline of what once was a vibrant tourist town with a strong community spirit. Many locals are fed up with how the town has been run the last couple of years. Foreign asylum seekers have taken first place while serving the local Killarney residents has become a very distant second. If we do not stop the rot soon Killarney will become a less attractive place for tourists to visit which will kill the local economy completely.
About Me
Election Promises
Make Killarney Safer
Many places in town have a lack of CCTV which allows anti-social behaviour to take Hold.I propose more CCTV in trouble hotspots.
We need to implement community watch programs in certain areas as many residents feel unsafe in their own communities and it has to stop.
I will be active with the local gardai and local business owners to make sure fake beggars will be dealt with. They make the town look bad, especially for tourists which this town depends on.
Improve Infrastructure
Propose a better traffic system as Killarney gets pretty deadlocked, especially during rush-hour traffic 4-6 pm .
A review of all pedestrian crossings in the town and replacing of the one near the Lidl roundabout. A Fatal accident has already taken place there and moving the crossing further away from the roundabout will prevent further accidents.
Be proactive instead of reactive and fix issues before major accidents occur.
The rural roads around Killarney badly need some work. To many need narrow winding roads that could be widened and straightened out in parts.
Improve The Locality
The loss of hosting the world rally championship in Killarney has been a huge blow to the town. If elected I will make sure that they get the funding so they can resume hosting it here next year.
The fees for parking in the center of town are nothing short of extortion. A euro an hour is simply too much to pay. It should be made the same as the library parking lot which charges 60 cents for the 2 hours.
Protect local businesses, Tourism and farmers
Council funds to promote Killarney tourism to a global audience
More focus on local food self-sufficiency than on importation.
I will vote against any proposals to bring more asylum seekers to Killarney which is killing the Irish culture and making it a less attractive town for tourists to visit.
